Yo Canada!

Well, now I can say I've been kicked out of a bar in French!

Here's a Montreal picture report, which I know Freitas loves:

First, the view from the hotel-

Olympic Stadium (or the House that Javier Vasquez didn't build):

Here's how disinterested I can look going up the Olympic Tower:
Here's the view on the way up the Olympic Tower:
Finally, here's some of the great modern architecure people told me about:
Here's a list of things I didn't manage to photograph:
  • Patti LaBelle having a breakdown on stage after hearing Luther Vandross had died.
  • The Canadian John Mayer, Ron Sexsmith. -That's not a stage name, either. I wanted to buy a T-Shirt that said, "I got Sexsmithed at the Montreal Jazz Fest", but they wasn't a merch table!
  • The hotel plant that made it's way into our room, just "to party with the Americans."
  • Fine FauxFrench Cuisine.
  • The Underground City.
  • Smoked Meat Sandwiches.
  • The weak, government regulated mixed drinks. Sure, you have universal health care, but at what price?!
  • The bush-league Montreal casino that I managed to fleece to the tune of $170 Canadian (= Cab fare back to the hotel).
  • Old Montreal, with all its age-old tourist traps.
  • 2 full blocks of Montreal Chinatown.
All in all, the trip was great, but I knew deep down there was a catch. On the way back, our connecting flight out to Toronto was delayed, causing us to miss our connection to SF, the last flight to SF of the night. We ended up flying to Vancouver, sleeping in the airport, and taking the first flight to SF at 7AM Tuesday morning.

-Meaning I went straight from SFO to work after "sleeping" in an airport. Looking back, a small (but miserable) price to pay for such a fine weekend.

Gambling Commission under the old regulatory regime, applications have progressed to full hearings while the fortitude of these online casinos commissions and licenses are all but operational; some of these are thought to be dormant and others under construction. Concern at the spate of applications and imposed a cut-off date of April next year for submissions under the old legislation.
